Well, ultimately it is the Greek translation for woman-breast. In most cases, the condition gynecomastia is a combination of adipose tissue, or regular body fat or glandular breast tissue.

Myths

Some people who believe they have gynecomastia, ( or gynocomastia, right guys? ) actually have a condition known as pseudogynecomastia. This relates to the male breasts being deposited with fatty tissue above the pectoral (hence why you can no longer see it) and not breast tissue.
